The newly appointed Mandate Secretary for the Agriculture and Rural Development Secretariat in the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA), Lawan Kolo Gaidam has pledged a strong commitment to repositioning Agriculture towards sustainable food production and attainment of food security in the FCT.
Geidam gave this assurance on assumption of duty as the 10th Mandate Secretary of the Agriculture and Rural Development Secretariat (ARDS). The Mandate Secretary who was received on arrival at the Secretariat by members of Management promised to bring his extensivewealth of experience and passion in Agriculture to bear in the performance of his responsibilities, stressing the crucial role the sector plays in the aspirations of government to revitalizing it towards not only creating jobs but enhancing food and nutrition security.
In his words ”Agriculture as you know, is one of the most important sectors in any society which is why the government is giving it the desired attention. What is therefore expected of us as public officers is to be creative and bring up innovative ideas that will help enhance productivity, promote sustainable practices that will ensure food security and opportunities for improved livelihood amongst our people”.
He solicited the full cooperation and support of the management team, emphasizing the need for departmental synergy towards actualizing the “Renewed Hope” agenda of His Excellency, President, Bola Ahmed Tinubu predicated on total economic and social recovery in which the agricultural sector is expected to play a very important role.
“I believe that if we do the right thing and ensure we implement the right policies and programmes in a way that all the Agricultural value chains will be accommodated, Nigeria has the capacity to become not self-sufficient in food production but even feed other countries” Geidam stated.
